Gender-Affirming Care

Gender-affirming healthcare is not a special service — it is simply good healthcare delivered with respect, accuracy and compassion. At FamilyDoctorYYC, we are proud to support transgender, non-binary and gender-diverse people of all identities and experiences in a primary care setting that is safe, welcoming and free from judgment.

We understand that access to gender-affirming care is essential to wellbeing. For many patients, it is life-changing — and sometimes lifesaving. Our priority is to ensure that you feel seen, supported and in control of your own transition.

Our services include:

  • Initial consultation and diagnostic evaluation of gender dysphoria

  • Supportive discussion of goals and transition pathway

  • Initiation and prescription of gender-affirming hormone therapy

  • Ongoing monitoring to ensure safety and effectiveness

  • Letters and referrals when needed for surgery, voice therapy, fertility services and specialist care

  • Respectful, trauma-aware physical examinations only when clinically necessary

  • Primary care that recognises the interaction between gender, identity, mental health and social wellbeing

Care is collaborative and paced around your needs, not a rigid protocol. There is no singular “correct” way to transition — hormones, surgery, social transition, legal transition and non-transition pathways are all valid, and we support your choices and your goals.

We also understand that many gender-diverse patients have experienced medical trauma, dismissal or disrespect in the past. At FamilyDoctorYYC, you will not be questioned, doubted, or asked to prove who you are. Your name, pronouns and identity will be honoured without hesitation, and your concerns will be taken seriously.

Most gender-affirming care can be managed directly in clinic. When specialist involvement is helpful, we will advocate for you and support clear, streamlined referrals.

If you are seeking gender-affirming healthcare — whether you are beginning your journey, continuing it, or returning after a pause — please contact the clinic to arrange an appointment. You deserve healthcare where you feel safe, believed and celebrated.
